Catawba Care Coalition - submitted by Anita Case

Catawba Care Coalition is being recognized by the National Quality Center (NQC) in New York City, in partnership with the HIV/AIDS Bureau of Washington, DC, with the 2009 NQC Quality of Care Award for Quality Management Infrastructure Development. Catawba Care Coalition (CCC) is the HIV/AIDS service organization located in Rock Hill but serving all of York, Chester and Lancaster counties.

This award is being given to CCC for implementing a successful Quality Management Program in several areas, including HIV clinical care, support services, and prevention services.  As one of only two “one-stop shops” for HIV care in the state, CCC has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to applying the knowledge and technical assistance provided by the National Quality Center to design and implement a comprehensive Quality Management Program. CCC’s Director of Quality Management, Jennifer McDaniel, will be traveling to Washington, DC later this month to receive this award on behalf of Catawba Care Coalition.

Over the last two years, CCC has transitioned from having a Quality Management Program that conducted one annual quality improvement project to becoming an organization that has made quality a central and vital part of its operations. CCC put together a Quality Management Team that has developed indicators with benchmarks that are regularly measured and reviewed by the team.  The data gleaned from these is used to identify areas for improvement.

According to CCC’s Executive Director, Anita Case, “CCC is committed to monitoring and measuring outcomes in order to ensure the best in quality care and service delivery.”

Catawba Care Coalition, a United Way agency, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote optimal health for York, Chester and Lancaster County residents by providing medical care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS and by educating the community to prevent the spread of HIV.
