An additional recognition, The Citizenship & Service Award was presented in memory of Eddie Black, a beloved county leader and catalyst of the formation of the Regional Chamber in 2000.  Wayne Wingate of W-Square Advertising Specialties was honored with that award for his outstanding contributions to the York County community.

Also presented at the event was the 2012 Chairman’s Award, an infrequent acknowledgement of a member of the community who has worked tirelessly to support the Chamber’s vision of leading the region to become the “premier place to live, work, and conduct business in the Carolinas.”  Outgoing Board Chairman James C. (Toy) Rhea, III, presented this award to Rock Hill’s Chet Miller, who led as a volunteer three seven-day alcohol sales referendum initiatives over the past seven years.  The award was last presented to Kitty Updike of Tega Cay in 2009.

Following the Awards Program the Chamber recognized and celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Rock Hill Industrial Park, the first business park in the state and a longtime affiliate of the Chamber.  The event also included the annual business meeting which reviewed the past year’s accomplishments, a preview of the Chamber’s 2013 goals, the approval and introduction of the Regional Board of Directors and the transfer of the board leadership from 2012 Board Chairman James C. (Toy) Rhea, III, to incoming Chairman Jeff Bushardt.

The York County Regional Chamber of Commerce has over 700 members and is the largest business organization in the four-county area of the state.  Formed from the merger Fort Mill, Rock Hill and Tega Cay chambers, the Chamber exists to improve the economy and communities in those three areas.
